I recently received an Asus Zenbook A16. I’m wondering if anyone has information on getting Linux running on it. I know that Qualcomm just recently pushed patches for it to the kernel upstream but I haven’t been able to locate any info on getting any distro installed, even if it means I need to build an image for it to happen. I appreciate any info that can be passed my way, though I suspect I may end up having to wait a kernel release or two on it. On the whole I love the machine, I just hate Windows and can’t wait to get rid of it.
I was googling this earlier today, as far as I can find Fedora and most distributions , don’t have anything pre-compiled for it so you’ll have to wait. Who knows how long for it but for my understanding, you could compile your own kernel and do it that way cause I did see a few websites that I think we’re going to show steps in the next part of it.
But congrats it looks like a very pretty laptop , hopefully you can get Winslop 11 on arm off it soon
We’ll still need to wait for official support for the Snapdragon X Elite in the Linux kernel version 6.10 or later, and then manually compile a custom image that includes the patch.
I’m searching for how to get Linux running on a Lenovo Slim 7x with the X2E, I found a Github Repo that may be relevant FixItFoundry/zenbook-a16-linux
just fifteen days ago an official iso for ubuntu 26.10 dropped, it still requires usb tethering or an ethernet adapter to install proprietary firmware blobs but from a cursory glance seems to be ‘there’ if you are willing to bash your head against it: discourse, ubuntu, com thread ‘Ubuntu Concept 26.10 Snapdragon Edition’
luckily from what i can gather you can in fact dual-boot linux so the fallback to windows is always available
fixitfoundry’s / jesse’s github repo seems very promising but it’s merely a personal project to create patches that can be upstreamed to linux and while actual hardware support rather than blobs is ideal it will take a long time to reach maturity — which is surprisingly being developed by qualcomm themselves and while i really do not trust them i remain hopeful. idk if qualcomm-time is anything like valve-time but 2027 is a very broad target, so hopefully this platform doesn’t get neglected when the new chip comes out (but i think we might get a break because moore’s law is dead, even apple’s 2nm M6 is supposedly going to remain base-model only according to wikipedia)
yk what imma buy one rn
