Hello all,
It’s been a few years since I used Linux. Thinking about using my old secondary system for Linux. X299 platform with gtx 1080.
2 questions
-
how well does nvidia gpu work with Linux or should I upgrade to newer amd gpu?
-
any certain distribution I should use? Arch? Bazzite? Mint? I used to use mint just FyI
With these older components I guess pretty much any current release of any distro should just work out of the box…
My personal favourites are ubuntu-LTS-based distros like elementary OS (elementary.io) and KDE neon (neon.kde.org) they’re currently on the latest LTS ubuntu 24.04 codename Noble Numbat release but I have an AMD 7800XT though.
Now I’m pretty sure this thread will derail into subjective recommendations (like I just made) for various distros like Arch, Manjaro, Fedora, Mint, PopOS, openSUSE Tumbleweed, Debian etc haha so take your pick!
