This might be the key. I’ll look at the gain settings too. Hopefully I don’t sound explosive/demonic the next recording

I enjoyed the podcast, will listen to some of the others. Useful articles on the main website too - book marked for further reading.
On the mic thing, it almost sounds like your mike is the mode to pick up sound from one direction, and then you have sat the other side of it
