I agree with Ryan that even little children shouldn’t be “protected” from every difficult thing – especially when they’re asking about something. Just keep it age-appropriate and don’t overwhelm them: It’s okay to let a toddler think that the sun literally rises and sinks every day; but don’t expect them to understand that the Earth is a rotating oblate spheroid orbiting a stellar object so that each location on it is surface moves in cycloid fashion relative to the sidereal reference.
Though if anyone ever tries to tell your kid that the Earth is flat then turn to the idiot and yell, “Then how do you explain mountains!” and never allow that person around your kids again. Then you can show your kid a globe and explain the sunrise/sunset thing.
