Letting an 8320 run the same as an 8350

Hey guys.

I want to know if it is possible for an 8320 to run the same way that an 8350 does? By this I mean the same speed AND with the same power saving features, and same Turbo boost (from 4Ghz to 4.2Ghz).

Specs:

CPU: FX-8320

Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo

Mobo: M5A97 evo R2.0

PSU: Antec HCG 620M

Yes you can but you need a good cooler, some H100i could come in handy or Noctua NH-14

You can easily make a 8320 run on 4.0 (depending if u got a decent chip)

I have the exact same setup as you but a worse PSU. My 8320 is running at 4.4 ghz with 1.35v (max 55c temp under 100% load about 45c whilst playing games)

I think 4.5 is doable with my chip without going overboard with the voltages (haven't tried yet) with my current cooler.

I have my 8320 running on 4.7Ghz. So yeah you can do that.

I couldn't say for sure. I see you're using the 970 chipset which could possibly pose some issues but probably not.

All you have to do to get your 8320 to pretend to be an 8350 is this:

  • Go in and set Multiplier to 20.
  • Make sure "Turbo Core" is enabled.
  • Go to section where you can adjust turbo frequency, set to 4.2.
  • Go into Load Line Calibration, raise to Ultra-High

You might have to bump up your CPU voltage a tad to get stable, but the LLC should be enough to cope with that. Have fun though, read some guides too:

Cheers!

damn, your 8320 is exactly the same as my 8350, i'm @ 4.5Ghz with 1.35v(stock for 8350).  I'm also running all of the power saving features.

+1  That guide is by far the best AMD 990fx guide.

yeah I must have a good chip haven't had any trouble getting up to 4.4 (got it to 4.2Ghz with 1.325v)

You should be able to reach 8350 Specs on air cooling so a Hyper 212 might be all you need, but if you want to go higher I hear that it's difficult to get the 8320 stable over 4.5 Ghz which is weird, but happened to my friend who tried clocking his 8320 over 4.5, as well as many people I've read online.

Any FX8320 will run at 4Ghz without even changeing its voltage from stock even a cheap 212 evo can run it at 4.5ghz(going higher than 4.1/4.2 may need more voltage)

Mine runing at stock volts at 4.1Ghz all you need to do is adjust the multiplier turn off power saveing or dont turn off power saveing modes depending if yiou whant the chip to run in power saveing modes or not when not in use.

Mine is running at 4.4 / 1.35v got a bit lucky ?

good for you! :)

i have prop. one of the worst chips, already needing .1.4V  for 4.5ghz and with that reaching already 67°C socket and 55°C core temperature on a custom watercooling loop...

4.6ghz already need 1.43V wich are running over 60°C core temperature!

and yes, pump is working and thermal paste is applied correctly.

wanna swap i give you 5$ ;D

makes me wonder why they did not sell it as a 8350??

not all silicon is created equal
