I did what every good citizen does, try the cheap one first then move up the food chain. Bought a $50 USB-C KVM that came with USB-C cables to use with a single monitor, 1 laptop, 1 NUC. Between my monitor flickering and weak current (laptop reporting under volt) I quickly returned it.
Got my L1 USBC KVM (2 computers 1 monitor) yesterday, found out I had 1 good and 5 terrible USB type C cables. Ordered some Nimaso Type C’s off Amazon and boom everything works.
As for constructive criticism:
The listing when read by a layman (me) misread it to mean there was a human interface switch to select what PD mode you wanted. After using my horrible eyes to look at the Type C ports I see they are clearly labeled and plugged my laptop in #1.
“The PD Mode switch on the back lets you control power delivery to each of the USBc inputs.”
I hate barrel plugs but good god this one fits tightly.
I have some (what I assume) transformer noise / coil whine coming from the KVM. I’ve had some “specialty” KVMs for one of my jobs (EAL4) and they had a similar whine so I assume this to be normal?
Otherwise the switch works fantastic when paired with these Nimaso cables.
