KVM video issue with Linux

I have the 4-computer 4-DP KVM and it’s an amazing piece of gear save for one issue I’m having.

The problematic computer runs Ubuntu with an Nvidia P1000. Tried both the latest Nvidia and the Nouveau drivers, as well as replacing the GPU with a Radeon Pro WX 5100 with the AMD drivers, and it’s always the same:

  • Booting with the console connected produces video throughout the boot process and I get to the desktop, everything is fine.
  • Booting without the console connected then switching to the computer produces no video (displays power off). USB works. Rebooting at this stage gives me video from the start of the boot process.
  • Booting with the console, getting to the desktop, then switching away then back produces no video; displays off, USB works.

The super weird thing is that everything is fine if I boot the computer into Windows instead of Linux.

Any Linux experts here? Anything I can do to fix or mitigate this?

Checked to see if it has a vbios update? There were bugs like this on pascal era gtx cards.

I have just now, it’s a smidge newer than what TechPowerUp has; I’m not sure where else to look.

The same thing also happens with the WX 5100 that I’ve put in temporarily though.

Also, random fact which may or may not be relevant but the computer also has a 4090 in slot 7 which is driverctl’d to vfio_pci.

The console cables are 1m, and the cables going to the box in question are 3m long; does it make sense to try with something shorter? They’re from KabelDirekt and I’ve had no problem with that brand in the past.

Id ssh into the box and see what the software says, let el messages, etc. you can maybe use xrandr to set your desktop layout as it should be and that will stabilize things. Since it works on windows it’s probably not cables

Sorry to have wasted your time with this. It’s xrdp borking things, not related to the KVM at all.
