KVM switch that won't disconnect from the monitor when switched

Are there any KVM switches that won’t disconnect when the inputs are changed?

Preferably DisplayPort

Do L1 KVM switches also disconnect when inputs are switched?

Forgot to add: preferably one that can also take advantage of my monitor’s FreeSync, which, if I remember correctly, an EDID adapter can’t do.

I bought a TESmart HDMI kvm off Amazon recently and have been quite happy with it. It has EDID emulation so the OS doesn’t see the monitor disconnect when switching.

Don’t know if their DP kvms support free sync though.

Edid emulation usually means buggy freesnyc support at best. Usually not at all though.

The l1t kvm for thin clients can do it but its limited to 4k max res.

Windows 11 has it built in now and it works well. Quadros on linuc and any windows version can do it too.

Awesome! This one, right?

Bummer. I’m using Windows 10 on the VM & I have a 3060 TI, and my ThinkPad & Macbook are on Intel.

This one us the one for thin clients

Is there something you have to do to enable this? My Win11 monitors still disconnect/reconnect when I change KVM ports and I’d love it if they didn’t.

Ah, yeah, I thought maybe you meant a feature where windows would pretend the monitor was still there, since I’ve been using that feature and it’s not terribly reliable in my experience and keeps moving all my windows to my TV when the KVM switches and often doesn’t move them back, so I have to disconnect the TV in settings and reconnect.

huh, weird. its usually been really reliable with my setup. I have 3 monitors connected to an egpu on a laptop + my desktop and… I am often shocked how reliable it is at putting things back.

this is the windows 10 soluton, you can explicitly save and restore window positions:

Is there an equivalent for a single monitor? I recently acquired a 1440p ultra-wide and won’t need the second display.
