Just built Z390 Gigabyte Designare GPU passthrough rig, AMA

Basics:

i7-8700
Z390 Gigabyte Designare
64 GB RAM (HyperX)
XFX RX580 passed through
OS: Ubuntu 19.04

It’s working great so far. I just played a bit of Assassin’s Creed Unity (or whatever that free one is right now).

I haven’t nailed down sound or tried Looking Glass yet but I imagine based on how good things work so for that won’t be a problem.

I’m using a add-on USB card right now to also pass through with a USB switch.

How has this system been working out for you ? I am considering a similar build.

May I know which BIOS version you’re running to be able to run gpu passthrough as I can’t seem to enable IOMMU with Z390 Designare. I’m on version F9 and VT-D is enable. Am I missing something in the setting? Appreciate any info you can provide. Tks
