Hello! I loved watching the video Wendell did yesterday on the F4-424 Max and I came this close to buying one when I remembered I have some parts at home.
So I have an i5 - 12400f and a 1060 just lying about, no motherboard, memory, storage, or case yet. What I was hoping was if these two together could be the basis for a good Jellyfin media server or should I upgrade to an Intel Arc 750 or the like for the encoding capabilities.
And if anyone has a recommended itx or m-atx case and motherboard it would be highly appreciated.
AV1 is supported on Jellyfin but if you have a spare 1060 then I don’t think it is worth buying another card. You already have the expensive bits. Just get the cheapest board, memory, and HDD’s and then let her rip. I’d get on eBay and just buy used everything. The specs for Jellyfin are all mostly dependent on the video card/transcode device. Everything else is secondary.
Well that’s good to know, since you say the specs are dependent on the video card, I’ll take it that stream quality though the 1060 will be perfectly fine for one stream at a time. I was worried about it since I don’t really understand what this table from Nvidia means in regard to performance in frames per second since a video I watch would only ever be 4k 10bit 60 fps max so why is this measured in the hundred of frames?
