So I've got this dual xeon HP workstation running WinServer 2012, and It's collecting dust. What do you guys think I should do with it? I was sort of thinking I could host nightly rounds of HL2DM or something?
That sounds cool
you can use it as a batch render machine
Use it to host personnel cloud services but Linux is better suited for that.
I could put a distro on it, it used to have Proxmox, I was thinking I might dom that again too.
Host a game server :D
What game would you propose? Any I've hosted in the past have just fizzled out due to lack of players.
TF2, Rust, or something we don't already have.
Wendel has a HL2DM server already there are a few Minecraft servers that we use
Well you could make a MC server and get money off it.
Anybody play the DayZ standalone? That'd be fun
I do enjoy playing DayZ Standalone. That would be fun.
As far as I know there has been no release for application required to host a Standalone server, however, the DayZ Arma 2 mod makes it relatively easy to host a server and I personally enjoy playing more than Standalone at this point. As far as minecraft is concerned I have yet to see a FTB server go up in this community yet. I love the "Tech" modpacks.
No, Minecraft servers are not a viable business model anymore. But an FTB server that lasts would be nice.
You could do a TS/VENT server and just open it up to 'everyone' ?
You could give it to me...
If you want, I've got VMs with Linux and HL2DM, Windows Server and Reflex, Linux and GMOD, etc. that I could package up in a VZdump file and send it to you. But you wouldn't be able to run those with Server 2012 since theyre all OpenVZ except for the one Windows Server Core with Reflex dedicated server on it.
