Issue with nvidia drivers update

hi all!

i seek you knowledge and enlightment

i’m using manjaro with an gtx1080 (580.119.02 drivers), yesterday i got multiples updates, some of which were nvidia drivers, today i did the update and after the reboot i get the mobo/bios info and then screen goes black and monitor goes into “no signal mode”

thankfully got timeshift doing snapshots everyday, ctrl+alt+del to force reboot and then boot into the latest (yesterday) snapshot, since the problem was lack of display output assumed the problem was related to the nvidia drivers, so to make sure i reload the updates and this time only update the “linux612-nvidia”, reboot, got no display output again.

redo the ctrl+alt+del, select same snapshot but this time also the snapshot got broken and had to select the one from the day before yesterday. this time i try to “auto install open source drivers” through manjaro settings manager, reboot, again black screen from not having display output

in the process, “broke” another snapshot! can’t use the same one i did…

so, not only new nvidia drivers are breaking my display output but even the snapshots get broken after 1 use. didn’t know snapshots could get broken after 1 use

GTX 1000 series and earlier was dropped from Nvidia linux drivers on the 590 series and newer, so thats why you got the black screen.

I read about it a couple of months ago, didn’t know it was taking effect now, tks for the info!

Unfortunately the problem persists, uninstalled through terminal or manjaro settings manager, installed 580xx dkms through software manager, still get black screen -.-

SOLVED went to 575

Nvidia has dumped you. GTX cards are not supported on the newest drivers.

In other words, it is time to consider an AMD or Intel GPU for real :slightly_smiling_face:

A 9060 XT 16GB is about 60-75% better than your current GPU. Your call to make though!

yeah, been putting the gpu upgrade in the backlog cause i’m a bit frugal and this one has been enough for the machine it’s in, mostly use it for jellyfin and folding@home

right now am watching the live stream, they also use manjaro on that machine and it seems they also had issues with the update x)
