Is Windows XP the best windows of all time?

ahem VISTA ahem sorry just clearing my throat continue

Vista was actually a dramatic improvement in architecture over Windows XP both front end and back end, with major modifications made to the kernel and user space. Windows Vista-10 are basically the same OS actually.

However it was a "plumbing" release so a lot of things changing meant an ugly UI since that wasn't the focus of development and very slow code. Having it work takes priority over having it run fast. Releases of windows since have focused on taking the Vista architecture and identifying bottle necks and removing them. Hence why Vista SP2 is faster than RTM, why Win 7 is faster than Vista, why 8 is faster than 7 and why 10 is faster than 8.

If you like Windows 7, you by-definition, like windows Vista. Exact same OS, same drivers, same kernel, same user space, same everything other than some minor improvements to the frontend UI. If the only thing you care about is the UI, then you're saying cosmetics are more important than the plumbing. Why not have a pretty picture of a computer on your desk instead of a real computer since that's all you care about? Much cheaper, would never crash.

I think that Windows XP was indeed one of the better Windows versions.

Not only that, but I'm pretty sure it's losing support soon (2017 right?)

I went from Win 3.1 to Win95, To Win98SE, To Win XP, To Win 7. to Fedora 22, every jump I made in the Windows evolution was at the time the right choice and a huge leap in stability and performance, of all of them I probably stayed on XP (64bit SP3) the longest but the jump to Win7 ultimate will be the end of my Windows experiences (unless someone cracks/hacks 10 into something usable, and there is a compelling reason to switch other than DX12)

I'm kinda' torn between XP and Win 7, I had very good luck with both but I have a lot of fond memories with XP and the changes it brought so I'd have to agree with the OP that it's XP.

Yeah indeed, i still kinda miss Windows Xp for that matter.
But Windows 7 will most likely be my last Microsoft OS aswell.
Maybe if the support of Windows 8.1 gets a longer stretch then Windows 7.
I might concider Installing an early version of Windows 8.1, with Classic shell or what not, and trow out those MS malware KB update shit.

But i dont plan on moving to Windows10.
And if i would ever concider doing the upgrade to Windows10, then it would definitely be the Enterprise version.
Because that version atleast gives you full controll back on updates atleast.
Windows10 to me, is way to intrusive, and next to that i dont need Microsoft as a "big brother who is watching me" sorta thing.
