Is windows 8 worth using? Last time I tried to use it I really didn't like how it worked, but that was around the release of it. Has it gotten better or should I still stay with windows 7?
windows 8 is a great OS once you get rid of metro and etc, which you can do with startisback very easily
I'm not a huge fan of Windows 8; although, to be honest, I frequently reminisce about how easy things were to find in Windows XP...
outside of the crappy metro stuff windows 8 is just a revamped version of 7, just like 7 was a revamp of vista
It per forms faster and smoother than 7 ever did. Get start is back and stay out of the metro crap and it runs real nice.
Is there any performance enhancements though. I'm a graphics designer and if I can squeeze any more performance out of my rig then I'll gladly upgrade.
For a new OS, sure. For upgrading Windows 7? It depends on the person, but I can imagine it's more often not worth it.
windows 8 does have better process utilization of multiple cores and memory utilization.
If you're buying new I'd get 8 because it's the latest and greatest, but be sure to get startisback
If you have 7 now the performance increase probably isn't worth it.
For productivity, Not really sure. For gaming, yes. Small increases in fraps.
+1 for StartIsBack. It's ESSENTIAL if u want to use Windows 8(.1) and not go friggin' apeshit !
I'll lend my perspective. I just upgraded to windows 8 last weekend. I was very nervous that it would really suck but I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. I still can get to my file tree and go that route but I don't need to as the new search function seems to work great IMO.
As far as the metro, after a bit of work, I've customized what apps I want and where to put them and how to size them. I can start my pc and be in a game in 45 seconds maybe less. To me that awesome.
I think most of the complaining is people wanting to stay with what's comfy. I like the change.
Windows 8. Why? Because in the next years, Windows 8 is going to support more technologies than Windows 7. I am a die-hard Windows 7 fan, but went with 8 on my new build. I have had zero issues with all of my games and programs, in fact I find it more fun, flexible, stable and informative than windows 7. That being said, all of the new Direct X updates are going to be geared towards Windows 8. I was very hesitant to switch to 8 reading reviews, but since I switched, I like 8 much better. It took me about 20 minutes to learn everything. The only thing missing is the Start Button, but StartisBack fixes that. Just torrent it. Good luck with your choice
Give it a week. You'll like it.
hell naw win7 4evar
iI say stay on win7 , the increase in speed is hardly worth it. Also not buying win 8(.1) might make Microsoft reconsider and start listening to what their customers want. (...modernui crap) If you pay money for win 8 they will take that as a signal that they can do what eve they want.
Just use StartIsBack. Its worth the money and if you need to be convinced you can still use their 30 days trial!
I can use my Win8 just like i did with win7 and it runs quite well.
Metro is apeshit though. There is no reason why this should be on a desktop PC. At least they could have made it optional (just like startisback is doing it. boot on desktop AND the great start bar that win7 had)
I heard there were some issues with network drivers not working out too well. I'm not sure if it's just the windows native drivers or of it affects third party drivers as well. It might have been fixed in 8.1.
Nah, I don't think that's essential. Something like Start8 would be a really nice pair to what Windows 8.1 has done. IMO Windows 8 is a solid multi-purpose OS and shouldn't be getting the hate that it is right now. ._.
It's been tested numerous times that Windows 8 uses less resources than Windows 7. You get boosts in FPS, less RAM usage, and a ridiculous bootup time that just kills its predecessor.
If you have Click Bios II, you can make the slash the bootup time to less than 10 seconds.
