They are my favourite group who make really good quality releases of anime movies and series. However for some reason they have not released anything for the whole year. The website is still up but inactive. I wonder what has happened.
Does anyone have more info about them?
From Novasty: Please read Rule 5 before posting links, discussion is fine but the links are getting close to piracy.
Please refer to rule number 5 of the forums, fansubs are technically illegal (lots of grey areas).
On a side note, there is no real reason for Thora to exist anymore as their function at the time of inception was to produce HD content either from DVDs or the emerging HDDVD or BDs at the time. As this is a common practice now most of the staff has probably moved to other groups or moved out of the business. I personally don't have contact with anyone from Thora (that I know of) so I can't confirm.
Not really, they are not a sub group, they are encoding group, there are other encoding groups out there. The subbing they do is only for fixing timing and on extra content, they tend not to do full episodes.
Anime on BD media is not "too expensive" if you enjoy something, pay for it, don't be a tard. Again, rule number 5, this is all technically illegal or lay in a vast grey area. There have been arrests due to sourcing and other things, it's not as simple as you may think.
$55 for 2 episodes....sounds like "too expensive" to me.
Deadfish is good for hardcoded subs - typically pretty good font work to match the theme of the show as well as translated signs. Commie has softcoded subs and typically are fairly well done. Otherwise you have HorribleSubs which I just have to respect for the shear gal they have...I love it <3 Also their sub work isn't the prettiest looking, but it does the job and they get the episodes out quick.
If you enjoy something, freaking pay for it, someone on the other end spent the time and money to produce those episodes. It does not happen magically. You also have to look at the age and rarity of the show/series/BD edition you are looking at, Bunko Yuri is an OVA with a very small base, it didn't have many prints and probably never will again, finding something rare and making it a benchmark for pricing is retarded.
The BDs that you guys are watching were originally bought somewhere, someone sourced them and spent that 55 USD or whatever. Grow up and start paying for your things, or don't complain when a series does not get a second season or a studio goes under.
Horriblesubs does not do their own subbing, they are a ripping group ripped right from CR and other popular licensed streaming sites. Commie rips right from them and adds styling and other niceties, they also do their own TL work from time to time depending on the show and the staff. Deadfish does the same, but on a different level, and they do their own TLs but tend to be based off of Horriblesubs or draw a lot from it.
I know I know, however right now I'm not in position to pay for such things. I'm unemployed so i can't spend money on things which are not crucial for everyday life. And I have no interest in Bunko Yuri whatever that is. FMA Brotherhood on amazon is split into 2 volumes for some reason and each volume is £30. That £60 and $90 for you in total. For me that's too much. If i were to pay for every anime I watched I would be homeless by now.
