hey all,
first post here. I have been trying to find a way to use my android phone as a usb hub, where i can use the touchscreen as a mouse and the onscreen keyboard as the keyboard. I would like to do this via the otg and without any server or app installed on the receiving device. ( it would be great too if i can mount images from my phone and make them seem like a usb drive or a CD )
Basically, instead of plugging a keyboard and a mouse i would like to have my android device be able to work as those devices.
While that would be interesting, I highly doubt that will be done without an extra app.
It’s possible, but you need root AFAIK. I don’t think it’s possible to do this without root.
Edit: Not exactly what you want, but a proof-of-concept; using a rooted Android device and having its USB port act as a HID keyboard. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=PJbqZm73MOc
I can install anything on my phone, but the goal is to be able to use it on a device that doesn’t have an OS already. I have a windows tablet with no touch support (broken) and no keyboard attachment, but a single USB port so I can’t plug a USB disk to boot and install from and have a keyboard to be able to configure the installer. That is my initial drive to look for something like this.
I have found an app that lets me mount images from my phone via usb (otg) but with no support for keyboard and mouse (it is called drivedroid)
I’m aware of what you want, hence why I think it doesn’t exist yet + it will require an App very likely on both devices, as almost nobody develops specifically on the Linux of Android.
Kodi media center works as it’s own OS if you install it on a minimal distro like fedora silverblue and set it to autostart on login. It has an app called Kore on the f-droid app store that uses ssh to provide native tochscreen navigation and an ability to send text to the host Kodi session.
Other than that there’s definitely some apps on Google play store that make windows applications for synchronizing the mouse with your phone touchscreen over wifi. But Linux not so sure
I would like to have kodi, and especially libreelec, but I can’t find an automatic install script, that you boot it automatically, and then it installs itself. everything done without the user choosing anything, it has to format the drive and chose it automatically and everything.
can you point me where i can find something like that ?
I know there is a way to autoboot Kodi using fedora and more than likely does not just apply to just a single distro. It exists I just can not remember where. Kodi was getting so much attention that I backed away from it.

Ya… you are going to have to work for it.
autostarting is not really my issue here, it is rather auto installing kodi, remember i don’t have any ports avialabel for external keyboards or mice and no touch screen working. so it has to boot and install itself with no user input at all.
As long as it still connects to the internet…it should not be a problem. No way to interface is a problem. A usb splitter ? I have used the kore app in past.
