Is my CPU out-dated?

I'm going to be running the Intel Core i5-2550K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor In my new christmas machine, i was aiming for an overclock of about 4.2-4.5 range but i was wondering if the cpu is outdated... the machine that im building is mainly focused on gaming, would it be better to get a newer series cpu or just stick with this one...

Well, it's basically a 2 year old CPU, but I'm sure it will still "work" just fine. In terms of needing an upgrade though, I would say it fits well with your build?

I was sure it would work, i was just wondering if it would be beneficial to get a newer cpu (i prefer intel)

The 2500k is still a very good cpu and is able to drive high end gpus. Its somewhat lacking in heavily threaded workloads but you might as well use up all the life it has left in it. I am assuming you already have it.

no but your clothes are, owwwwwwww

Nope, see if you can OC it silly though.

Its still pretty good, i'd say wait till the 14nm chips come before upgrading.

When you overclock close to its limits, somewhere around 4.8GHz, it performs like a 3570k and 4670k overclocked to their limits roughly. It's still a great cpu and probably will be for quite a time.

The 2500k came out in 2011, so it's still somewhat new. I'd use it any day over a Pentium 4 at least.
