Is it worth upgrading to Windows 8?

I heard boot times were quicker and stuff, but i dont like metro. When i build my new pc, should i clone my old hard drive and keep win 7 or should i upgrade to 8 first?

EDIT: ok cool. Ya the classic shell looks pretty cool. But for now I think i'll save the money and just use win 7 in my new build. But thanks!

If you don't like metro, and you would probably jsut add the start button afterwards anyway, just stick with windows 7. 8 is good, but its a bit buggy, and not exactly what you need.

Yes, the boot times are quite a bit quicker. The Metro UI start screen isn't that bad since you can make your own shorctcuts, customize them and arrange them how you want. If you really don't like Metro/Modern UI, you can just install Classic shell and never even see Metro again. It also allows you to boot directly to the desktop.

My Metro UI Start screen:

Classic shell (I just have the start button hidden):

You should dual-boot W7 and W8 and pick the one you prefer.

its not worth it, 7 is pretty much the new xp standard for the next decade or so

I have both 7 pro and 8 pro, but I find myself using 7 pro as my go to OS.  I just can't get passed the mess known as Modern.

Windows 7 is going to support more hardware right now especially considering that most drivers are standardized for 7.

currently there really isnt much reason to go to windows 8

Windows 7 & 8 are both good, but 7 is more refined, and has better overall support.

If you don't like modern, don't get 8. At least until SP1, or they fix the other issues.

I myself, have it, and like it, but the bugs have been killing me.

take a look at Norman Nielsen groups article on the new interface:
