Just finished your review of the Msi mpg 341cqr x36. Been heavily debating getting this monitor for the new QD-OLED tech, but im a competitive fps gamer and have never tried ultrawide. Anybody have experience with comp shooters like wz rebirth on ultrawide.
100% in shooters esp you can see more there are no real downsides other than your pc has to render more pixels now.
i’d use 24 or 24.5 inch monitors for competetive because its easier to see the whole screen without moving your eyes as much.
Probs still reason why pro CS player’s don’t bother with them, The idea that your visual is now flooded with information due to extended FOV external to the game window for most may feel overwhelming and could cause distraction.
These monitors are best used for experience of using them rather than gaining benefits because once you go beyond a size and your whole peripheral vision is being pushed into the game when you think about it that type of stimulation can be too much for most folks.
I would still love to get my hands on a 59” for a driving game or something but at that point you may as well get a VR headset.
yeah ill be coming from 27 which i found perfect, just want to experience the immersion of uw
im hoping having really good game sense makes up for having to process more information. super excited to use it on fh6 when it arrives too. even if i dont find it viable for my comp games, i know the immersion will convince me to keep it
Ye FH6 is gonna be a real treat for folks on UW displays.

Tri-monitor gaming really is unfair: you can squat at a city corner and be able to view down both streets and both walls at once:
I never got into competitive comp, but I would assume this kind of stuff isn’t allowed. lol
But yes, you gain an advantage with any ultra-wide. Adjust your FOV accordingly.
Ps, and thank you for the opportunity to share my 15+ year old Tri-monitor setup. This past weekend I finally tore it all down, including the 18 year old Planar LCDs - the original first 120 Hz LCD from 2008. Pretty sad but my eyesight and lifestyle has drastically changed over the decades.
I went with a cheap 32” Ultra-wide at 120 Hz - for work. lol
Now that my eyes and brain are aged out of the ranked FPS game, I have gone the other way- Playing at 4 feet from a 42” LGOLED. I still hold a respectable k/d in Battlefield but its definitely the wrong tool for the job. The trade off is everything else is 100X better. Even Arc Raiders, or Elden Ring feel so immersive when the corners of the screen are basically out of my peripheral. Bad strategy but more fun.
I’ve been using Ultrawide (2560x1080) for quite a while now (can’t tell exactly but I guess ~8 years). Not in competitive FPS, but if the aspect ratio starts to become a problem for whatever reason, you can just use a standard AR with black bars on the sides - I had to do it in some titles that did not render properly in UW, no real downsides.
