I’ve got something weird going on in my LAN: My PC can upload to WAN much faster than the truenas system in the same LAN. Between the two systems, throughput is as fast as can be expected. But when connecting to speed-test servers on the internet, my personal rig gets much higher speeds when uploading. This is a problem because my offsite backup is crawling with ~2MB/s.
Downloads from WAN are comparable between the two systems.
These are the iperf speeds.
- my PC to truenas server (LAN): 6Gbit both directions
- my PC to iperf testserver (WAN): 330Mbit download, 180Mbit upload
- my PC to iperf testserver -P 4 flag: 570Mbit download, 480Mbit upload
- truenas server to iperf testserver : 330Mbit download, but only <50Mbit upload
- truenas server to iperf testserver -P 4 flag: 650Mbit download, but only 120Mbit upload
Ping time to iperf test server is the same from both systems, as is the number of hops. CPU on truenas box is close to idle. No core shows abnormal load. Restransmits are much lower on the truenas box than on my personal rig.
Anyone has an idea why my desktop PC can upload to the internet with 3-4 times the speed of the truenas system? Both computers are literally connected to the same switch.
The truenas box uses an intel X710 nic, my PC has an intel 82599ES.
Is it possible that my ISP somehow caps packages originating from truenas systems (how would they know)?
