So as the heading implies I need help on choosing my CPU. The choices are of course the Intel i3 3220 and the AMD FX-6100. I will mostly be gaming on my new PC and I am hoping to start making youtube videos with friends in the future. But for 98.97% of the time I will be gaming. So which is beter?
If Price is not a matter, For gaming a Prefer the i3 3220, if you want video editing and other stuff you need more muscle, the 6 cores would be enough for rendering and all other stuff. you can also get FX 6300 which is faster than 6100. cPu doesn't matter much for gaming its really about the gPu. Plus most games dont take advantage of 4 cores yet. Its really uP to you.

I cant find benchmark comparing 6100 n 3220 but most results between 6100 n 6300 are the same.
If you'll be using multicores such as video & audio editing, rendering and other stuff go with FX6100 (or upgrade if u can 6300). If you think you'll be just gaming and don't need 4 or 6 cores go with i3220. The i3 wont be that good or that bad for editting but its better to use the FX6100 :) u may go with fx 6300 if u are planning to edit videos at the same time gaming, plus the gpu will do the work for gaming. If you're solely gaming grab the intel.\m/
I will recommen the Intel Core i3-3240. It's identical to the i3-3220. But the i3-3240 is clocked at 3.4GHz wheraz the i3-3220 is clocked at 3.3ghz. And games today don't use more than two cores. And intel is known to be faster than AMD. so I would go for the i3-3240.
I wouldn't consider the FX 6100 now that the FX 6300 is out. Piledriver is about 15% to 20% better than Bulldozer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzkUvkXfGKw
If you want to save money by going last gen than consider a Phenom II 955/965. They're better in gaming than Bulldozer and cost less. Anyways, there are pros and cons to each of those processors: Phenom II ($90-$100), i3 3220 ($130), and FX 6300 ($130). They all perform about the same, with the i3 having a lead in lightly threaded workloads (games) and the others leading in multi threaded workloads (video editing). Then there is overclocking. If you overclock the AMD cpus, they will perform better than the i3. But then again overclocking costs money. You will need an overcloackable motherboard, extra cooling, a case with good airflow, and a PSU with enought watts to handle it. If you planned to buy all that anyways, then go with either of the AMD processors. If you don't want to overclock and save money, an i3 with a H77/B75 motherboard, stock cooler, and budget case should be good.
As for how many cores you need for gaming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4PDoy-mi0A
