Intel fix for 13th and 14th gen coming in mid-August(Updated with info for 2 year warranty extension)

It appears that intel has figured out the root cause of the CPU problems. Per intel they have a microcode update inbound with an ETA of next month. Intel has stated it was due to

“elevated operating voltage requests to the processor.”

Intel also confirmed they had an oxidation problem, but per them

" We have also looked at it from the instability reports on Intel Core 13th Gen desktop processors and the analysis to-date has determined that only a small number of instability reports can be connected to the manufacturing issue."

I would personally like for intel to offer an extended warranty for 13th and 14th gen. As it can be hard to tell how degraded a CPU may already be and, it could in theory, prematurely fail earlier than is standard for most CPUs, but only time will tell on that. Glad to see a possible fix is in bound and hopefully resolves the issue for most everyone that is affected.

Given this is even more widespread than the over volting issue that was melting 7000 series AMD chips early in the year, I would hope Intel would at least do that. We’ll see.

Here’s a good video to break it down for laypersons.

Strongly agree. I’m also hoping they figure out the OEM issue as it appears some people are getting stuck in the middle of smaller system integrator and intel on getting their CPU’s replaced. I don’t envy being in an small/medium SI’s position though, as they could end up having to eat the cost of shipping the PC out or having the customer go through a 3rd party repair group at their expense. Assuming intel will not make them whole. I don’t think this will have a major effect with the likes of dell or hp as they have the weight to pressure intel into recouping the costs and being able to eat the initial pain.

Intel is extending the warranty for 2 years on 13th and 14th gen. It only covers “boxed” processors. So if you bought a pre built your probably stuck to the whims of the SI and Intel.

I think this is a good step in the right direction. But time will tell on how well they honor it and handle everything going forward.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqyaiTUaH9A I came across this video last night and thought it was interesting. I was wondering what my fellow forum members thought about the information in it.

My system just started blue screening from time to time. I thought I fixed this. I have a gigabyte motherboard. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions or helpful videos?

Hey, you’ll probably want to make a new thread as this doesn’t really add to the thread.

But if you have updated the BIOS and microcode on your PC and the issue is still occurring I would recommend filing a warranty request with intel or the OEM for you device. It’s not worth troubleshooting a 13th/14th gen cpu when the PC is buggy as they are suspect.
