Intel 905P

I’m using apps that benefit from random seeks.
These are Optane devices from Intel.
Is there any reason I can’t use them on an AMD B550 board?

No its just a normal SSD

Thanks.
Just need the U.2 adapter for the M.2 slot.
My M.2 will use a Sabrent PCI-e adapter and sit vertically.
All in a 1U Chassis too.

Doesn’t one of the 905 sku’s include an m.2 adapter?

Not sure as I put it on a list of purchases, but thanks for the heads up as I will look for that model.

Yes
One sku has a u2 cable, another has m.2 cable.

Found the M.2 on the 480GB version for 600 bucks.
I only keep 350GB’s of data and it’s a 1U build, so I’m fine with the price.

Thanks Again Brotha’ Men…

No reason you can’t use them. This machine here is a Ryzen 3900X using a 905p add-in card. Not U.2.

I would just buy the PCIe card version. Only bother with U.2 if you already have a U.2 drive carrier or that’s the only version you can buy.

Good to hear but I’m building a 1U where the only PCI-e will be a 1X Connector card to a DSP rack.
I’ll use the M.2 Slot for the 905P.
It’s an ASRock B550 Digital Audio Workstation.

Thanks for the reassurance though, much appreciated.

I can’t remember, are you able to boot from an optane drive on Ryzen? I thought that was some proprietary bit from Intel

There are 2 different types of optane ssd’s.

  1. The optane+nand like that H10
  2. The optane only, like a 905p

You can use the 905p like any other ssd (Bootdrive, etc), but as far as i know you need an intel to use the H10 fully (optane+nand). May some dirvers can fix this.

Oh excellent. I was thinking of getting an 800p due to reduced prices for some homelab stuff
