How does one install Windows 10 these days such that he does not need a microsoft account to log in.
I watched a bunch of youtube videos about it but the general vibe is that microsoft has a habit of patching those options out and they are older than a couple of years so… instead of trying them all one by one, i figured … maybe someone is doi g this on a regular basis and has the good recipe…
Once after the setup is complete (i.e. you get the prompt to start providing details):
Note: DO NOT connect the computer to any wireless/wired network until you get to the Windows desktop.
- Press
Shift+F10
: Should open a command prompt
- Type
OOBE\BYPASSNRO
: The setup/system should restart and you should not get any prompt for a Microsoft account
- Finish setting up your PC and get to the desktop
- Connect your PC to a wireless/wired network and start downloading updates

That’s one way to do it. The other is to have the Ethernet cable unplugged throughout the entire installation process so windows doesn’t detect an active internet connection and allows you to proceed setting it up. Compared to 11, this still works on 10.
Remember to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS/UEFI to boot with this!
All right. Will try this. Thanks for the hints.
Easiest is probably just install without internet plugged in.
And as far as i´m aware Windows10 pro still offers offline account option.
Or the domain join option.

The Join Domain instead
option is the one that allows you to create a local account, and I believe it is only available to the Enterprise SKU out of the box. The retail ISOs for Home and Pro will force you use a Microsoft account starting on W11 22H2 IIRC. But the question was for Windows 10. I’d start without the network connected just for due dilligence.
Disclaimer: There’s a difference between the different ISOs provided by Microsoft that will force certain behaviors. For example, the MSDN/VS ISOs are different than the Retail ones - but once installed, the software is all the same.
I did it a couple of years ago and I don’t think it has changed since then: just tell the installer you don’t have an internet connection and it will let you bypass the Microsoft account. Is that simple.
Windows 11, not that simple. Cheers.
