I've been thinking of upgrading my cpu but i'm not sure if I should or not.
These are the choices I've been thinking about:
AMD FX 8350 with and Asus Sabertooth 990FX
Or
i7 3820 or i73930 with the Asus X79 Sabertooth
So with these choices what do you guys/girls think?
Also with my current system I game on a 42' Phillips HDTV and have a 2nd acer 22' for pc monitoring. I have gamed on both screen, and I didn't seen any different but it seems with the new cod bo2, and a couple new games that have this match making BS I'm getting a bit of lag but I'm not sure were its coming from. I'm not sure if its my internet 90mb dl (download) and a 5mb ul(upload) all the correct ports are open in my routers. Yes I have two routers in a dasy chain. I don't see any different in gaming from running from the modem, one or two routers. Any thoughts on maybe how to get ride of the lag or to improve network performance?
theres no reason to upgrade your cpu if all your doing is playing games. you wont see any fps increase over what you already have.
i still run my 920 @3.6 and see no reason to upgrade till i see the haswell benches. even then i may not bother. dont get me wrong i do like upgrading but currently because consoles are limiting game develoment so much theres no reason to.
the best improvement you can make to your system is a better gfx card or an ssd. if you using green drives, swap em out and use black editions and or set up a raid 0.
But I just got the 660ti :( I upgraded from 2 evga 260's and Ill tell you the performance increase was night and day on that card. My current HHD are not green, I was thinking on trying a SSD but I don't want to be broke buying a high storage one. Then I saw the SSD caching on the Asus X79 Sabertooth and it got my mind thinking, time for an upgrade maybe. I figured I wouldn't get much of a performance gain with the cpu upgrade.
i would still say wait till haswell. you will likely get 35% over what you currently have as opposed to the 20% of the ivy.
also theres no real benefits to x79 if your not doing 3d renders where the extra cores can be used effectivley. the difference in memory is nominal over the z77 maybe 2% but it is a lot of money for not much perfomance gains.
a 256GB ssd cost £100/$150 its sata 6 but will still work on sata 3. so its not a huge amount of money.
tom's had an article up today showing superpi times of the haswell. it was running at 2.8 and matches the 3770 at stock. superpi 32m haswell won then the 1m it came 1 second behind then wone every other math test after that. so if a 2.8 cpu is as quick as a 3.9 cpu it looks like there may be some real meat on the haswells.
