I'm building a gaming rig for $500 and I need help

Hi. I'm tired of not being able to run Half-Life 3 (sorry I meant 2) at full settings. I don't need accessories; Just the rig. I currently have a 2TB HDD lying around but that is the only spare part I have. I've never built a PC before and I need help picking parts. Thank you.

These look good. I prefer the latter if you're mostly going to be playing games and not doing video rendering and stuff.
