I'll try living with a 28 hour day

Yeah, that’s a root of at least 60% of all my issues (I’m being generous here by not saying 90%+). I do sleep better and feel more rested when I don’t have anything looming over my head, for sure.

When I saw the title I thought this was inspired by the following comic:

…but seeing it not mentioned nor anyone else mention it, is it not actually? Interesting.

Convergent evolution is annoying. Whenever I have an idea someone else usually already had it :stuck_out_tongue: But since I’ve read xkcd from the the beginning I might have been inspired by it.

Preach!

Nearly all of my insomnia stems from toxic work related stress.

Thanks for the info. Light can be the factor for me for sure.

Day 6-8 - Saturday to Monday
Messed up the sleeping schedule after Friday, I can move the sleep cycle a bit but I need to keep track on how many hours I’ve slept. Now I only slept 8 hours on Sunday which made Monday harder. Monday I’m back on track, went to bed 14:00 so Tuesday should be ok.

Not really a problem to stay awake longer but when that wake cycle isn’t matching appointments. I’m thinking about adding alarms for all days on my mobile phone, only problem is that it gets a bit crowded then and it can be harder to add a temporary alarm for boiling eggs or whatever.

This. There are cheap bulbs and lights if you sensitive for darkness. I found this picture on wikipedia and it can be that easy to get some light while doing other things. I’m a troll though so I enjoy the darkness in my cave

Back when JPL/NASA launched the first two Mars rover missions, the ground control teams at JPL were on “Mars Time” – which is not the same as Earth’s 24 hour day (it’s 40 minutes longer). JPL supplied their ground teams with special watches set to Mars Time and advised teams to sleep in blacked out rooms and avoid “resetting” their biological clocks with strong sunlight when Mars time was substantially offset to Earth time. Although JPL did not have an abbreviated week, similar guidelines used at JPL might be helpful. Get a watch or time app which you can set to your #hours in a day and cover your bedroom windows with black crepe paper to insure total darkness. Avoid strong light or sunlight exposure on days where your time is offset to real time. If sunlight exposure is substantially disturbed, you might consider taking vitamin D supplements. Normal grocery store type vitamin D pills take your liver 20 some days to “convert” into a useable form (Calcifediol), so I’d suggets getting Calcifediol “D” supplements from Amazon or some other supplier. That vitamin D is immediately usable to your body (especially your immune system) and at levels beyond what your liver can convert on a daily basis.

Early research on sleep periods done in French Caves found that humans naturally gravitated to much longer day/night cycles (approaching 40 hour cycles) when they did not have references to sunlight or clocks.

Good luck!

Day 9-11 - Tuesday to Thursday
Working pretty fine.

When I’ve slept 10 hours I’m not dead tired in the morning and don’t have to take a nap during the day. Being awake for 18 hours isn’t that hard really. Some “nights” I’m l looking forward to going to bed because I feel kind of done with the day. And not in the “throw you arms in the air” done but “I’ve done what I wanted today” way. The biggest problem is to remember “dinner time” and similar when it’s 3:00 at night. And of course, it’s hard to have a 9-5 job when you’re going to sleep at 15:00.

For next week I’m planning to set the alarm more and also introduce 2-3 hours of prolonged exposure therapy. Something I haven’t done as much as I should since I’ve been passing out tired all the time.

I don’t remember what it was called nor how to find it again, as I read about it when I was a teenager in the late 1990’s, but it was supposedly possible to be more productive if you napped for 15 minutes intermittently throughout the day. I still to this day cannot fathom full control of sleep habits as even the medicine I take to even hopefully help me sleep doesn’t work half of the time. Yay, guinea pigs!

I do sincerely wish you luck in this experiment.

I’ve tried that one but it doesn’t work for me. When I fall asleep I fall asleep hard. But I know people who do power naps for ten minutes and then feel refreshed.

Ack-ptfh!

Uberman schedule?

I do believe that’s it, yes.

After two weeks (or how long it been, my estimation of time was crap even before this) I’ve tweaked the schedule a bit and added things. First of all I added times for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. That’s really the hardest one to remember because you might be more or less hungry some days. I also added the gray S for sleep in, since even when I sleep 10 hours I might need “5 more minutes”.

As I think I’ve said before this way I don’t need to take a nap in the afternoon or spend the evening desperately trying to not fall asleep, and when I go to bed I’m enjoyable tired and fall asleep pretty quickly. Not once during this experiment have I gone to bed, twisted and turned for an hour, and then gone up to watch some youtube before I go to bed again. Last night I was thinking about doing this but decided to try to sleep for a bit more and then I fell asleep.

The biggest problem is people. Last Sunday I had to split the sleep to be able to attend a dinner, but that’s really like when you have to take a train early in the morning, you’ll have to tweak that day and the next.

Edit: Did a bit of tweaking to make the hours I’m awake a bit more “normal” on Monday and Friday, this made the weekend longer.

My first major setback. On Tuesday 20:18 there’s an auction I’d like to snipe, but I should be sleeping then :stuck_out_tongue:
