IKEA Desk Alternatives?

When I went to the IKEA site looking to get a simple table delivered I found the $65 table was $414 after shipping. So, I'm looking for alternative suggestions. I'm in what Ulysses Everett McGill might refer to as a geographical oddity, two weeks from everything apparently. Actually, Arkansas to be more exact. I'm trying to figure out if it's going to be cheaper to borrow a truck and spend a day driving to IKEA and back, or order something workable elsewhere. If I could get something comparable delivered, that would be ideal. Just not at $400.

Build your own? Got power tools?

I use two of these. Plenty of space for a computer setup and work area. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S29932181/

Delivery was cheaper ordering two of these, as opposed to the 120cm option, because they could use a courier instead of their own delivery service. If it's still too much, hiring a van could be a good option.

do you not have an amazon prime account?

@spacecat If I had a table saw I'd definitely think about it, as of right now all I have is a hand (jigsaw) saw. I don't trust that for straight lines.

@zavar That's actually a great thought, thanks. Not perfect, but a WHOLE lot better than getting the big table.

@spitesuicide I do, suggestions?

I appreciate it guys, there was a use office supply store actually a block away from my house but they went out of business a couple of months ago which kinda leaves me at a loss. Right now I've got my AMH on a folding table from walmart and it makes me die a little inside everytime I see it.

I'm going for a black desk to match the furniture in the bedroom, and I found that the next size up is still just $10 for shipping so I think I've got a real contender.

I guess I'm lucky enough to have an IKEA 15 minutes from where I workk

I highly recommend you build your own.

This is what I built about 2 years ago. I really wanted an L shapped desk from ikea but they were shit quality. I built this and cost me under $90

I have two of those too. I'm the one that told you about them. Poser. I'm the real hipster. Did it all before you.
Pro tip: buy the legs and table top separately if you want better colour combinations.

Actually the cheapest thing to do at IKEA is to buy the pieces separately. They sell the wooden planks and possible desk legs separately at very low price and the planks are really long so the give some very good space. If you want storage space there are also some very cheap metal drawers, that are around the same height as the legs, that you can put under the plank instead of one of the desk legs.

Build one if you have the resources :)
