So I need a new PC for gaming, preferable a laptop because I often move from my parents house and my apartment and such(I'm a college student) and it is much easier to carry around from place to place than a desktop. Is there any significant reason to get the i7 over the i5 mobile chip since it is $100-$150 more expensive? but please take into consideration that this is purely a gaming laptop and nothing more and I'm just looking to get the most bang for my buck.
a mobile i7 can be a huge improvement over a mobile i5, but it also might not. The thing about mobile i7s is that some are dual cores with hyperthreading, and some are quad cores with hyperthreading. All i5s are dual cores with hyperthreading. It's only really worth getting a mobile i7 over a mobile i5 if it's a quadcore version, at least in my opinion.

The ones I'm looking at are the quad core i7 with hypertheading and the dual core i5 with hypertheading but will the i7 help me out at all with gaming? or i could just put that money toward the GPU and upgrade the the GTX 765m instead of the GT 650.
The quad core will be much more powerful, but if it's the difference between the 765m and 650m, go with the 765m.
if the difference in clock speeds is big as in the i5 has a higher clock speed go with it because most games are really that threaded
my 4200U i5 is a dual core and it leaves much desired spring for a quad i7 and good gpu with a decent display HDD/SSD and RAM can be upgraded later and if you can a chill pad , just my 2 cents
GPU will be the most important thing. So set your minimum GPU in your budget range and then go for the i5 with a higher clockspeed or the i7 if you can afford it.
