I start up my pc, all is well. I go into google chrome and this just happens. My computer stays like this until it forces itself to restart. I have also noticed all of my desktop icons have disappeared. I would like to know if you advise me to go to a computer shop and see if i can get it fixed or if i should just get a new graphics card
what psu and graphics card are you using?
try plugging it into the intergrated graphics on the mobo
How old is the GPU? Might still be under warranty and you can RMA it.
Whenever you make a thread for troubleshooting help, please always include the full details of your computer build. Nobody can help you if they don't know your hardware, OS, and other things like over clocking, and age of parts and damage if relevant. Also, if you notice a "I changed this and then something broke" include whatever change you did that happened just before you noticed problems starting.
I think i have a similar problem with my pc which i semi-circumvented.
It just started for seemingly no reason (that i can remember) in win7 (works perfectly fine in linux).
For me there is small graphical glitches from awhile after booting into desktop and when i play a video (especially on facebook) the screen just craps itself, sometimes im able to recover if i manage to close the window.
I've managed to get around this by changing the refresh rate in Catalyst every time i boot, doesn't matter what frequency.
I also noticed that when i do change my refresh rate the GPU's idle core clock goes from 300MHz to 400MHz.
I've got a Radeon 7870.
