I Snaffled an MS-A2 (9955hx-32Gb-1Tb) for 250 Great British Pounds what do i do with it?

Thats kind of it, I’m looking for suggestions, I already have a Homelab for my uni house with a couple of n100/n150 pcs and a very interesting 7940hs Engineering Sample that runs a wing for pterodactyl. First job will be github and gitlab runners

Oh yeah I am also open to suggestions about distros and kernels. im running cachy-os on the other devices and the network environment is a hodgepodge of unifi and mikrotik gear thats all set up well enough to work

Im running CoreCycler Auto-Tuner on it and it seems to be stable down to a 0.5 underclock on ccd0 so far

Just thinking a bit out loud what’s smart and useful generally.
Generally it’s a good idea to use a form of virtualization or containers to logically isolate the main operating system from what runners, agents and services it has running.
Thad way you can limit and even prevent one runner acting up taking down your full system.
Also backups get more easy and efficient as you got a bunch of small backups you only have to restore a single backup if something needs restoring, compared of having a lage full system backup and having to restore the entire system for a single issue.

The 9955hx should have plenty of cpu horses for all tasks.
Check the BIOS if you can up the cpu boost timers and temperature limits.
Also if the ram has EXPO or XMP profiles, check if you can set a comparable speed in bios as it will lack the profile support I guess.
The 32Gb does limit it’s potential as a small virtualization server.
If you don’t mind using/leaning docker it’s the most ram efficient way to have some logical isolation what you’re running.
I like to run Portainer CE with docker as it gives a webui to help manage containers more easy.

How much ram does your 7940hs have?
It’s probably worth to swap if the 9955 can get more ram even if it’s a bit slower.
Oh be sure your distro is using the most recent stable 7.x kernel as it has the most optimizations for Ryzen 9000.
Distoro is up to your preference as long as it has a recentish 7.x kernel, your current Cachy-os is a good contender.
Oh for better security enable micro code updates: Ryzen - ArchWiki First chapter, the rest might be also useful
But probably no need to compile a custom kernel as zen 5 is best supported on main 7 stable.

obviously minecraft

Good one, with stacks and stacks of mods just to flex the cpu it’s speed.
