Just Installed a hyper 212 on my 3570K and have noticed while using the Intel Burn test that at stock Clocks its hitting 61c and im wondering if anything could be wrong, because i dont want to OC if my fans are gonna be on full the whole time to keep it cool.
Ive seen that the antec h20 620 is on sale, is it worth buying ?
I also have the hyper 212 evo on a 3570k and it doesnt get above 50c, so unless you've overclocked it or something it probably isn't working to it's fullest extent. The first thing i would check is the thermal past application. if you have some eaxtra consider reapplying it. I used the vertical line method here:http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appmeth/int/vl/intel_app_method_vertical_line_v1.1.pdf, but otherwise i can't think of anything that would effect the temps that drastically besides incorrect installation. try turning it so it is blowing out the back/top of your case (where ever you happen to have a fan).
I have it Blowing out the back, i was wondering if the thermal paste has to cure ? or anything liek that, its only been running for 5 hours ish, i applied it worng the first time and used running alcohol & coffee filters to remove and re-apply so i dont have any more paste, im hoping i just have to "Burn-in" this cooler
Mine didn't need time to cure. I'm running a Hyper 212 PLUS on an AMD Athlon II X4 640 with an overclock from 3.0 to 3.2 ghz at 16c idle and 30c load. Intel runs much hotter than AMD, though. I'd say try reapplying again, or adding a second fan to the 212.
I would remove the cooler and clean off the old paste with isopropyl alcohol and a coffee filter as coffee filters do not leave fibres behind. I use the pea sized DOB in the middle of the CPU and reinstall the cooler insuring you get a good tight fit between the CPU and your cooler. If after all that and you are still having problems you may have a problem with the fluid in the heat pipes and need to RMA the cooler. Does not happen very often but hey, if it is man made, it can fail.
Well when it shipped across canada it did get really cold so who knows, i tightened it down as far as it can go but i can still turn the cooler side to side a little.
Im wondering if cleaning it before use rubbing alcohol left it less capable to cool properly ? when using the rubbing alcohol, i couldnt get it complatley shiny again.
For sure the Ivy Bridge does run a lot hotter than an i5. You may be forced to upgrade your cooler. Once you remove all the old paste the CPU is fine. It may not my as shiny as originally but as long as you have all the old paste off it will be fine. This little cooler is only 35 bucks and is dual fan with 4 heat pipes. I use one myself and it works great.
ive Heard and seen review running it at more mid to high 60's with a Hyper 212 Evo, if not ill just save up and buy a custom loop package, alphacool has had some nice packages as far as ive seen.
the design is not similar at all, for one the 212's heat pipes are in direct contact with the CPU, not in a indirect block, second the 212 had a 120mm fans, no 92mm thus you get more air flow
