How to recover MDADM RAID after Motherboard Failure

Hello all,

I had a RAID 10 running on Ubuntu with four drives. My motherboard is currently presumed dead. When I get my RMA back how do I go about setting up my RAID without destroying the data that’s on the disks? I have a separate OS/Programs disk so I’m assuming that will run fine.

You should not have to do anything other than plug your devices into the new motherboard. mdadm scans block devices for MD superblocks and assembles/starts the arrays automatically (assuming your new motherboard recognizes all the devices).

If for some reason the array is not started you can run mdadm --assemble --scan which will start all arrays listed in /proc/mdstat.

Edit: My eyes read RMA as mdadm. If you aren’t using mdadm, then disregard my post.

The drives are MDADM? Let’s hope for the best. Plug the back up if at all possible in the same (/dev/sdX, /dev/sdY) ports and you should be ok.

MDADM is in the title, and would make sense for drives to be part of an array.

The RMA appears to be for the motherboard.
So it looks like:
Mobo faulty, sent it for RMA, when I get a replacement mobo, how do I recover the array.

So your advice looks good, and don’t doubt your sanity
