I’m looking into buying some used server parts from ebay, for a backup nas for my nas
On ebay uk, there are some good deals on supermicro x9csm-f motherboards and xeon e3 1225 v2 cpus. All good so far.
But the all the 8 gb memory modules from the qvl list I can find, seems to be new, and kinda expensive. The price of the two other components price considered.
So, does anyone know if some other used unbuffered 4x8 gb kit would work? Or will tje board throw a hissy fit?
The board is 60 £ and the cpu 30 £.
And the 32 gb kit or 4 x 8 gb individual identical qvl memory sticks I can find are ~ 150 £.
And some of the 32 gb ecc unbuffered kits which isn’t on the qvl is ~ 75 £.
So, does any have experience with memory not from the qvl on supermicro boards? Or should I play it safe and get a more expensive but tested kit?
