Forgive me, but it is extremely stupid as a language, so they decided to make it more complex with spelling. In my language, what you see is what you read, so there can't possibly be an argument about how some word is pronounced. The way it is written is the way it supposed to be pronounced.
And it's not even like the german language, where there are strict rules about what cluster of letters is pronounced what way. No, there are different way you can pronounce the same thing to the point, where we need to ask what is the propper pronunciation of GIF. Is it GIF or GIF...
