I rarely build workstations. I am building this for AI shenanigans.
ASUS Pro WS WRX90E-SAGE SE
AMD Threadripper PRO 9975WX
2x NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition
ASUS Pro WS 3000 Watt 80 Plus Platinum
I just installed both of the Blackwells to the motherboard but I don’t know how to connect them to the PSU. There is no manual in the cardboard boxes the cards came in. The short cable from the card ends in four separate connectors. Do I need each of these connectors to have their own extension to a PCI-E port in the PSU? I am supposed to get additional cables to consolidate them back to one cable?
That power supply should have multiple 12v high power connectors (the tiny power connector coming out of the RTX 6000s). You shouldn’t need the 4-split adapters so long as the included 12vHP cables are long enough. Those are for older PSUs with only PCI-E connectors.
Make sure these connectors are fully seated on both ends. Not fully inserted 12vHP cables is the number one cause of melted connectors, a know problem with the cable design.
Those are the right cables, the purple plastic is there to help ensure they are fully inserted (if any purple is showing it is likely not fully inserted and then it would be at real risk of over amping a pin or two, then over heating and maybe catching fire).
Just be sure the 12vhpr cables are fully inserted on the cards and at the PSU with little to no immediate bending or turning as the cable leaves the GPU or PSU. It is an unfortunately bad design we are stuck with.
