How can i free space on /boot? //Having problems clearing space

Hi crowd,

Running Linux on an Aspire S7-391. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Trying to apply updates and it says i need to free up space, I've already run BleachBit and cleared like 20GB of space, then also tried uninstalling some programs, and nothing is working.

Heres what Software Updater says:

Yes my trash is empty. :)
Yes I've run sudo apt-get clean

This is how I ran my BleachBit.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time!

Have you tried removing any old kernels? Here is a link

/boot is a seperate partition reserved for the kernels, so no matter how much you space you recover on say / or /home partitions it's not going to affect /boot - you'd have to delete kernels like @bungalow_bill said.
When installing how much space did you reserve for it? Typically a vanilla kernel is ~80MB in size, so I usually allocate 300-500MBs to have space for a few additional kernels

Ahhhhh, i see. Thanks Baz, i understand they are separate now. #LearningLinux Yeah I guess when i installed I didn't allocate enough to /boot as i can only fit 3 kernels. :P I guess to extend this partition, I'll need to boot into Gparted on USB?

And thanks Bungalow for the link, this worked.

No worries. Yes I think you will be able to increase the /boot partition using gparted from a USB, though I haven't tried this myself.

Note to the wise.. make /boot 2 GB big and you will never have any issues LOLs... well I do cuz I have space to waste :P
