I just did some light modding to my case to make room for some massive storage hardware:
That's the hot swap cage backplane, and drives from a Compaq Proliant DL380. They're attached to a PERC2/DC RAID controller that came out of a Dell PowerEdge 2450. The drives are 18.2 GB, 10K RPM, and use the Wide Ultra 3 SCSI interface. The RAID controller reports a whopping 80 MB/s transfer rate on each drive (the controller is only Ultra 2 SCSI). In RAID-5 I get a massive 50.6 GB logical drive!
The case mod is that I had to dremel out a few rivets so I could remove the middle drive bays to make room for the huge RAID card. The hot swap cage fit nicely in the 3x 5.25" bay area, aside from the length being almost a problem. It's butted right up to the ATX power connector, and the molex powering the backplane routes awfully close to my RAM...
The question is, what do I do now? Do I keep it?
