From a reddit thread, I'll assume the guy posting is assumed to be the half life writer who quit recently, maybe that was just a publicity stunt.

Hope I Just HOPE that is real. If not. I have lost all hope in lord gaben.
It doesn't seem legit. HOWEVER, it does seem to provide ideas and concepts that action games and games in general move towards. I think that is being described will require some significant amount of computing power that is simply not available to the average consumer, maybe not even to high end consumers.
If HL3 is to be, it would probably be the first HTC VIVE exclusive game (can only run on VR). That way it would be revolutionary, even if the story or graphics were not that great.

There can never be a Half Life 3 it has been so over hyped that there is nothing that will live up to expectations. Valve would be smart to never make it.

Those are about the words that I was looking to say.
HL3 is nothing but a stupid internet meme at this point.
I can't be any more of a disappointment than MGSV
I can see stuff surrounding the HL universe coming out for VR and such as products from Valve, but HL3, probably not. Keeping in mind pure FPS don't work too well in VR (not including vehicle FPS).
Regardless if legit or not, downloading EP2 now for the feels...
To be honest, I'd feel satisfied if hl3 was about the same calibre of game as hl2. It doesn't need to be a masterpiece of graphics or story telling for me to enjoy it. As things are with the gaming community in general, Valve has an almost impossible challenge of living up to gamer's expectations in my opinion.
At this point I would like to see Valve release something. I don't even care if it is Half Life 3 anymore. The most recent game they have released was Dota 2 in July of 2013. Before that there was CS:GO in 2012 and Portal 2 in 2011. I want to see what they have been working on for the last 2.5+ years.
Actually this is the truth, nothing Valve can create will compare to the players expectations, we kinda' had the same thing with Bethesda and Fall Out 4 lots for people had a let down on every aspect from the graphics to the story line because they expected more then they got.
I'll believe Half Life 3 is coming out when I download it from Steam and click new game. Not a second before.
And @Quixotic_Autocrat and @blanger are right, Valve isn't going to do it. Expectations/Hopes are too damn high.

By this point, I really am not going to look at rumors for HL3 (no matter how credible) until Valve actually makes a statement about the game. Don't want to find out that we are lingering on false hopes and dreams.
