Homelab rebuild

Hello Guys. My name is Kevin and i have been thinking about rebuilding my Homelab in a more cohesive way for my new apartment and Hoped for some advice. Right now i mainly use Unraid for Storage and as a media server for plex specifically. But i also deployed a proxmox cluster with some old hardware that i got for free and Ive ben thinking about moving all the storage to my Unraid instance and pair it with 32gigs of ram and a i7 4790 and use cifs to make the storage accessible for my proxmox cluster. The cluster then would be a mix of 4 machines from a 13400 with 32gigs on that i would install plex in a lxc and some vms, two machines with 4th gen i5, and a intel based mac mini. I don’t need high availability and it would be connected to my 24 port unifi switch on 1gig. Does that makes sense or is there a better way to get it right? Without buying more hardware.

Look up what SAN stands for, how it works and apply in your network.

Hm makes sense but i like the array stuff that Unraid is doing and i only have 4x4TB Ironwolfs and some random hdds merged into that array

Here’s Linus video about SAN when he bought a NetApp rack (sight unseen) locally a few years ago, he explains a bit what you can do, including running VM’s with servers while having storage centralised.

In the follow-up he shows what LMG has done with it, knowing the NetApp head server was basically e-waste.

HTH!

Oh yeah I remember those right! Thanks for your input really appreciate it!
