I am asking because I am not familiar with this motherboard space. ATX form factor preferred, with at least one PCIe 4x16 or PCIe5x16 slot, and two more, one for an HBA that will allow for full speed. 10G networking preferred as well as my home LAN is 10G already. SFP+ is fine.
SO far, the Asrock Rack B650D4U-2T/BCM is the best fit I have been able to find. Could there be others better suited and is the PCIe 5 x4 slot enough for an HBA card that will be connected to the backplane in a 45 drives Homelab15?

Giving this a bump in case anyone has any ideas.
I like the MSI’s selection of epyc 4004 motherboards better than the Asrock boards because they doesn’t use a broadcom chipset for the 10GbE.
IMO Supermicro has the best PCIe layout of any of the epyc 4004 motherboards so far, but you need to add your own network card to it.
I’d be interested in learning more too, though I know this topic is specific to looking at motherboards. I’m curious if any companies have used the available lanes in a storage focused system. Supermicro’s A+ server, AS -1015A-MT, looks like a pretty simple 1U offering. Looks like they also have the node based 3015MR-H10TNR which will come eventually- that looks neat.
Oddly, that does not appear to be available in the US.
I looked at that board, it is interesting and may do what I need as well.
I ended up picking the supermicro epyc 4004 board so I might be biased.
