Hello!
I'm replacing my desktop with a laptop so that I can move away from my desk without too much hassle (lugging a 900D around isn't easy). But I have some very high requirements for the laptop.
Now I bought what I thought was a suitable replacement from PC Specialist (Vortex IV 17.3") but I've been having some issues with it and I am most likely to send it back. If I send it back, what would be a suitable solution for my needs?
Needs to have:
- MUST be able to run four displays at once, three in an Nvidia Surround or AMD Eyefinity setup at 3240x1920 (3x1080P) and one auxiliary display through HDMI to output sound to my AVR. It doesn't need to be able to power its own screen in this situation.
- High performance CPU - 4910MQ seems to be quite capable (when plugged in).
- High performance GPU - It has an 880M and from what I've seen so far it's a damn good GPU, but I've not been able to test it at 3240x1920 which I need.
- 16GB or 32GB - or the ability to increase to 32GB of RAM later on.
- Minimum of TWO 2.5" HDD slots 9.5mm high.
- At least ONE mSATA slot.
- Its own screen must be a minimum of 1080P - not really sure if I want a 3k+ display on a laptop, but it could be interesting.
- Its own screen must be IPS or an unbelievably good TN panel - or another panel type that is very close to IPS in terms of colour accuracy and viewing angles - also no glossy screens. The screen on the Vortex IV 17.3" is the "AU Optronics B173HW01 V.5 - 17.3" Matte 72% Gamut" and it's just not good enough for me.
- The ability to keep itself cool enough to not thermally throttle too much while also not being too loud. This laptop gets quite noisy when gaming or doing other CPU and/or GPU intensive tasks.
- Probably a 17" display would be best, but more is most likely not going to be a problem. If all of the above exists with less than a 17" display, then holy crap, but sure!
- Good enough build quality - I'd read about people not being too impressed with the Clevo cases that PC Specialist use, but I'm more than happy with the build quality of the Vortex IV that I have.
Sorry my first post is so complicated, but thanks in advance for the help.
Note: There doesn't seem to be a laptops forum, so I put it in what I thought was the most suitable section.
Note 2: A secondary solution, would be to get this laptop to run Nvidia Surround with the auxiliary display but I have tried everything. The Nvidia Control Panel gives three options under the 3D settings menu and nothing to do with display or anything else. Setting the global settings to prefer the GPU and disabling the Intel HD iGPU didn't work. It allowed the laptop to duplicate over four displays instead of just three, but the Nvidia graphics drivers just will not run. Even installing them again doesn't work.
