Hello. Basically, I have just completed my first pc build, and i am a complete newb when it comes to installing programs, and file/folder management. i used ninite for the majority of my programs, but im not eve sure what a few of them do (such as media player, and pdf reader). My main issue is with steam. Twice now, it's shortcut has fucked up, and tells me that "steam has been moved" then i have to go into the steam folder thing and whenever i run the steam application from there it acts as if you were first starting it up on a foreign computer. i installed a couple games, and after "steam moved" i launched it again, and after running through brand new start up process again they were no longer installed, even though all of the install files/folders remained in the folder i had created for them.
Basically, can someone please help me to understand how installs work, and where all of the stuff goes, and how to decrease unnecessary clutter etc..?
media player and pdf reader - pretty self explanatory - one plays media files and the other is used to view pdf files. If you dont know what either of those are - google.com on a side note never just install a program that you dont know or have a need for, same goes for any browser extensions etc. Not treading carefully will result in your machine being a prime target for attacks and exploitation.
The shortcuts havent f*cked up at all. It aint the hammer its the hand holding the hammer scenario. Take a step back and think through what you do. You cant just move folders around for steam games - for that you have to either reinstall to another folder or use steammover. If you need to create shortcuts for anything right click on the file then 'create shortcut' or 'send to : desktop as shortcut'.
If you are completely lost with the use of a pc - consult youtube with search terms like windows basics, windows folder management, etc. Or even a book from your local library. The only way you are going to learn is through trying stuff yourself.
Peace
