[HELP][SOLVED] How to connect to a gitlab server ran on centos7

too late.

I don’t have mouse support, accidently highlited the help button now I cannot exit the pop up window. This is why I use windows and not some wack tag linux.

Edit: Well cannot change much but we can skip this caveman nonsense frustration and continue working on getting this ridiculously easy task done.

Given that you have no experience with CentOS, is there a particular requirement for using it?

I see no reason why ubuntu server 16.04 with your DE of choice wouldnt work and should be a cakewalk for the most part.

I chose centos-7 because it is more enterprise oriented and the employees would have centos experience from other companies.

RedHat is enterprise oriented because they offer support. CentOS is no more efficient at completing a task than Ubuntu is.

I think what he’s getting at is if you’re setting up GitLab, you don’t need to worry about an Enterprise distro. Get familiar with Linux, and Ubuntu is the best for that.

We are using Linux mint, based on ubuntu, in school. I would prefer using this as we already so far in depth in this. And I kinda know how to install centos with eyes closed

What system do you prefer?

Default. Unless you know what the other options and know if you need them.

Refer to the RedHat documentation, it has tonnes of info, relevant to CetnOS as well.

Once installed you need to get your virtual networking sorted. You box needs to be accessible outside of the windows host I assume?

https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html

I use Amazon Linux, CentOS 7, and Ubuntu for all of my servers.

as requested I’ll switch to something else because this centos burns my mind

Networking, virtual machine settings, application install etc. will all be the same just fyi

The thing is, I want a damn gitlab server to work, nothing else, that is why I thought centos was the better option as it wouldn’t use so much of my CGAX-RX86TVD gpu

98% CentOS/RHEL, 2% Ubuntu here.

Why would CentOS or Ubuntu use your GPU?

This subjective discussion is not helping my position in which I find myself in. Go talk on some other thread what os is best for a server, but I need something that works.

Because I see the visually?

Hes legitimately asking you a question, you dont need to get hostile with the people helping you.

You can limit the amount of VRAM used by the guest in Virtualbox settings.

The thing here is, I try to be neutral and friendly, but you guys make it hard to decypher what you are saying.

I posted a guide above that goes from 0 to GitLab. Did you read that? Follow all of the instructions?

Ask questions if theres something you dont understand. Theres no shame in admitting you dont know.

The instructions are provided by @anon79053375 for CentOS are identical to the instructions for Ubuntu.

Use whatever distro you like. I was trying to help because you have networking issues and aren’t even sure what you set your IP address as.

Distro has nothing to do with it, gui has nothing to do with it. Instructions are for the command line anyway it makes no difference.

I’ll leave your thread. I suggest you slow down and sort your base OS first then head to the application install.

I’ll leave you with this. nmtui if you’re stuck in the command line, need to setup networking and aren’t overly familiar with the command line commands, this is a nice little CLI gui for NetworkManager. You’ll use it in the future if you work on Linux more. Hope you get it sorted.
