What's the HP one you grabbed?
How much do you notice the 75hz over 60? Do you think it's worth the extra cash to put down on a 120+ hz 1440p?
I've never used anything over 60hz so I'm jumping into unknown waters here. It's just something that would be neat to have.
Depends on the games you play. FPS yes, Rocket league yes, Witcher skyrim no not really. Think about it this way if the game requires moving fast then yes it does matter. If not then it isnt such a big deal.
Well I think you just talked me off the ledge. I'm an RPG player for the most part so I probably wouldn't get too much benefit outta it. I've read that before in the past actually, but your statement kinda re-reminded me about those. Basically you'd only get the benefit if you were playing CS:GO or something like that. Overwatch maybe? I don't play those though.
I basically only play FPS and it is very noticeable. I notice it a lot with COD bc of the frame caps. Most of their games are capped at 60 and IW is capped at 90 which is so bad. I dont know why but 90hz is awful on my eyes so I cap it at 60hz.
Its just about fluid motion thats all 144hz does.
I actually did a lot of testing games at 60 and 75Hz and it's noticeably smoother. It's not a huge difference but you can tell. FreeSync also helps some. Again not a huge difference but it's noticeable.
As for going to 144Hz I'm really not sure. I'm not a huge gamer, but when I was (a long time ago) I couldn't tell the difference after around 85-90Hz.
Well the tradeoff I think is what do I get out of the feature? I'm lookin at the 144hz monitor because it seems like a good feature but would I get more enjoyment out of that @ 1440p playing my RPGs/MMOs, or more playing them in 4k at 30-60fps?
I've never experienced 4k or 144hz so I really don't know the answer to that.
Idk. You are asking the guy that play BF at what is basiclly 720p on a 1440p monitor at all low settings expect mesh.
In my mind the only reason to get 4K is for bigger screens. I can absolutely understand the use for 4K when you have more than one window open.
For gaming honestly I don't think I can tell the difference between ultra 1080p vs medium 4K while I'm playing. I'm sure if I sat down and looked you can tell the difference but idk how much you play. I mean if you're playing Xbox then I assume your sitting back a little so 4K matters less? You're also using this for Xbox and switch stuff right so 1080 max anyway reasonably. And they don't push more than 60fps anyway. So on that basis maybe 4K. Idk how much time you going to spend not gaming bc I think for gaming 4K is not really all that great.
I saw a similar monitor at Micro Center that looked great in person, but I was reluctant to mention it because... You know how opinionated the internet is. It is the same monitor but it has Bang & Olufsen speakers. Monitor speakers usually suck but B&O speakers should sound decent. It might help the OP because he has limited space.
Refurbished: $320
I'd be looking out for the Nixeus EDG 27 since it's supposed to be coming out soon-ish.
- 27"
- 1440p
- 144 Hz
- AVHA
- VESA
Or if you want to go 4K, something like the LG 27UD58-B would be nice. I have the 24" version and it's an extremely nice monitor.
- 27"
- 4K
- IPS
- 10-bit
- VESA
I've been eyeballing that LG one a bunch, it seems like a beast of a monitor on paper. What's the 24" look like as far as a desktop experience go? I'd say 99% of the time this will be a gaming monitor but I may use it a bit for remote work on my laptop.
It's been great for me. I'm using the default Windows scaling for the menus and whatnot, Chrome is at +25%, Word is 20-30%, and stuff like that. That is at 24" though, 27" should be better. Colors are great, better then the ASUS PG238Q it is sitting next to.
Games are perfectly fine. Easier to run games are great at 4K, everything is crisp even without AA. Add in AA though and oh my god is everything smooth. Harder to run games work perfectly well downscaling to 1080p too. I've been playing Fallout 4 at 1080p on it since the game eats VRAM and it looks just like it did on a native 1080p panel.
I'm not exactly sure what to say about it. I was looking at 4K monitors for a couple months and kept hesitating since I thought it was a lot of money to drop on a monitor, but I have no regrets now that I've been using it for a while.
Also didn't realize Newegg had a model with a better stand for cheaper. Because that apparently makes sense.
I would probably end up getting the 24" version.
1080p would look the best on that one. I can downscale to 1440p and still have excellent picture quality on games that wont run great at 4k, and an incredible 4k picture at 24".
