Headphone/Mic Combo on a Budget?

Budget: ~$100-130 total

Source: Desktop (Custom build, no sound card or DAC, Z77 Intel Chipset)

Isolation: Pretty good, using it for gaming and video editing, with rare occasions for music (Metal).

Last night my cats broke my Logitech G35 set. I do video editing and like to play games. I’m looking to stay within a ~$100 budget for the microphone and headphones.

I was looking at the Samson SR850, but not sure about the microphone. The Samson looks a little more comfortable than it’s alternative.

I’ve never really done shopping for a quality pair of headphones before, so this is all new to me. I’ve never used open, or semi-open backs before.

Please let me know what you guys would suggest!

Interesting topic. Will monitor this one.

I have the Logitech H800 and I am really happy. Switches between bluetooth and usb easily. However, you might be looking for more quality. Higher fidelity.

So, closed, accurate, flat, easy to drive and cheap.

Sony MDR7506 + modmic.

@noenken is right on the money here!

Alternatively you could look around for 2nd hand headphones and maybe come across a bargain.

FYI you can have my spare ATH-M50's for $60 shipped express included

You can also go with the Semi-Closed Superlux 668 and a ModMic for under 100. Also will be great, though less noise isolation than closed back!

Philips SHP9500 + Vmoda Mic is an amazing setup

All together under budget.

The mic works great and is a much better value than the modmic. Oh by the way realtek stopped giving the latest updates to the onboard drivers on their website how lame is that? http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=353&func=fileinfo&id=2295&lang=en

Dude, thank you for that mic recommendation. I had no idea those existed. I absolutely love my Headphones, but every mic I have tried didn't get close enough to my mouth for my liking which means it picked up too much background noise. This looks perfect for what I need. Thank you!
