Having problems with Asus X99 deluxe motherboard

I have just built a new system for my friend using the Asus X99 deluxe motherboard. 

The problem I am having with the mb is that it will only allow one or two sata ports to allow the ssd plugged into it to be a boot drive Which is strange, I thought any of the sata ports should be able to boot from using a ssd. 

Second problem is setting up a raid. I can set the raid up but then it is not able to be selected a boot drive. 

Any ideas ? I have had a look around on Google with no luck.

you can use the "easy tuning" in the bios to set up the raid

put the SSD in slot 0 and set the bios to boot from slot 0

and software raid sucks  ... buy an after market raid controller for true raid capabilities.
