Hard drive went from 60gb left to 47 left in one day

So yesterday I had 60gb left on my SSD. Today I installed another 8gb of ram into my computer. Now I have only 47gb left on my SSD. Could the ram be causing this? I haven't installed anything the last 2 days.

The only thing that installed the Intel Management Interface. It installed through Windows Update.

Paging. If it's auto-managed, Windows will create a pagefile that is ~1.5x the amount of RAM installed. If you installed another 8GB, that would mean Windows would reserve an extra 12GB for the pagefile. 60-12=48.

You can fix this problem by manually specifying the page file, or putting the pagefile on a secondary drive. Personally, I've only allowed 1GB pagefile on my SSD. The thinking is that I will never use more than 6GB of RAM, so in theory, I wouldn't need a paging to begin with. However, Windows is optimized to make use of paging, so 1GB should be plenty for Windows to still run optimally. At least that's how it works on Linux... my swap rarely used beyond a few MB, regardless of size.

Be aware, that is nothing unusual. You might look into moving some of those files to your other drive.

When I have a 1tb? :)

Thanks for the help guys. I set the page file to a minimum of 1gb and a maximum of 12gb. I'm back up to 61gb free :)
