Hackintosh, does it work?

I'm plannig on building this for a friend. She does video editing pretty professionally and wants a system for the home that is cheaper than a mac, and my own personal quota, kicks the mac's @$$. So, I devised a list on pcpartspicker, that was around 1500 USD which is about 300 USD cheaper than she would have spent on a mac.

This list is as follows:

CPU: i7-3930K 6-core 3.2GHz (most likely will be putting forth a bit more of money for the i7-4930K, but feel free to tell me if I should stay with the 3930K)

CPU COOLER: Corsair H100i Liquid cooling system (planning to overclock a ton, especially with the somewhat low stock clock speed)

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI-EATX LGA2011 (On pcpartspicker it says that this board isn't compatible with the 3930K, but it's 2011 socket and fits in my case, it should fit. If it doesn't please tell me why and also if it is compatible with the 4930K as well)

RAM: G.Skill RipJaws 16 Gb (4x4GB) DDR3-1600 (will probably go for DDR4 when it is feleased but for now I chose this. Also the mobo has 8 RAM slots, so it's quad channel that's why I have 4x4)

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120gb SSD (She has tons of external drives, so not much space is needed here, maybe I'll get her a 3TB drive for Xmas or something, but she doesn't need it only for putting the OS, and important software, so they boot extremely quickly)

Graphics card: GTX 660 (It's super cheap now for the holidays and she doesn't need a souped up gfx card because most of the load is on the CPU. Will only be used for vfx editing which she needs something)

Wireless Network AdapterTP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (simple, she needs one and I've heard good reviews, plus it's cheap)

Case: Xion XON-980-BK Mid-Tower Case (Looks good, not too badass, somewhat sleek, fits in with a red theme, supports 240 mm liquid cooling and an EATX motherboard even though it's only ATX)

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 watt 80+ gold (It's cheap and gives more than enough power than she needs, room for upgrades)

Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer (Cheap, standard)

Monitor: Acer G236HLBbd 60Hz 23.0" (1080p, nice looking, thin, decently priced)

Operating system: Will probably be OSX Lion (cheap and effective)

Please tell me if this part list is compatible with the Hackintosh system, meaning if I load Lion today with this build in the correct process it should give me no problems. Thank you for the help, in advance, and putting up with my essay about my choices :-).

EDIT: Also, if there is a cheap but good quality sound card that I could include that would be great, I know it's a stretch but try to keep it under $50. Thanks.

Hey Josh,

I don't know enough about hackintoshes to know if those specific parts work, but the tonymacx86 forums will be very helpful.Tonymacx86 each month has a buyers guide each month with different price ranges and needs. Go check it out.

Was just reading over your parts list and discovered you are using lion. Mavericks is free and there are a lot of great features in it.

I checked Tonymacx86, a ton. I didn't find all of my parts and the site said that not all of the parts are on the site. That's why i came here.

I generally recommend InsanelyMac over Tonymacx86. Also, osx86.net is a great place to look for drivers for your hardware. Most of the hardware you listed should be fine, I'd just check to make sure the wifi card has a supported chipset, and same with the chipsets on the motherboard. Intel builds can often work with just a modified bootloader. Check out Chameleon or Clover.Chameleon is for BIOS systems. Clover is the bootloader to use if you have UEFI.

I'll also recommend Mavericks over Lion.

Happy hacking!

so, does this work, or not?

yes it works ☺ hackin tosh.

you can even try it in VM ware workstation first, just to play with it.

thanks! Could you give me a brief explanation of VM ware?

with vm-ware i mean you can use it in a virtual machine in you normal windows os just to play arround with it first. VM-ware is a virtualization software, that allows you to run a  virtual operating system in a guest operating system. if you have windows laying arround, you can install that on your build. and wenn you have vmware, you can try to install mountain lion, or mavericks on vmware, there are a ton of guides for that, i used some youtube guide, and worked perfect for me. if it works on vmware it should also work as a clean install. on an intel pc.

Just check arround, OSX on an intel pc. on google and youtube you will see alot of guides.
