Looking up anime for this game sometimes really makes me wonder how time “suddenly” disappears, because I could swear that it wasn’t that old yet

Yes! You’ve scored it again.
Young monk lives a recluse life unbeknownst to the fact he is being watched by the picture of a rabbit he drew. Seeing this the Buddha gives the rabbit a human body so she can express her feelings. In time the family grew and also attracted unwanted attention so they decide to flee towards the city inside the painting.
Title is inspired in the Chōjū-giga scroll, which some say its the world’s oldest manga.
The windows also exist in real life. I’m not sure but they are meant to denote wishful thinking versus harsh reality.

I’m going for another “it isn’t really what you’d expect”. Or at least I certainly didn’t expect what it would turn out to be when I just saw the style and first few episodes. But a good one nonetheless!

Reminds me of what I’ve seen of Girls’ Frontline, though I’ve only seen 2 episodes and dropped it after that. There was just too much other good stuff in the season. I haven’t really seen enough to judge of the style is similar enough to the screenshot, but I might as well “give it a shot”
